About the Press


I. "Academica Brâncuşi" Press is a distinct department of the Publishing, Libraries and Multiplication Service and functions as a specific professional component without legal personality within "Constantin Brâncuşi" University of Târgu-Jiu. The Press was founded in 2002 and accredited by CNCSIS (National Council for Scientific Research in Higher Education) in 2007 with code 255, due to its annually significant editorial activity, being included in the list of Nationally Accredited Press. Our purpose is:
  • to support the editorial production needs of the University;
  • to bring together in the act of publishing our teaching staff and other authors from outside the University;
  • to strengthen and bring up-to-date the technology and the printing materials of our own printing house and of the editorial production broadcast network.

II. The Press carries out editorial activity which consists of preparing for printing, printing and distributing different types of materials:
  • science books,
  • academic books,
  • magazines,
  • text-books, etc.
The editorial activity is focused on promoting quality and authentic value from all the scientific and literary fields mainly from subjects represented by majors and minors within the University such as:
  • Mathematics,
  • Informatics,
  • Chemistry,
  • Physics,
  • Mechanical engineering,
  • Electrical engineering,
  • Industrial engineering,
  • Materials science,
  • Computer science,
  • Automatics,
  • Energetics,
  • Law,
  • Economy,
  • Letters,
  • Physical education and sport
  • Philosophy,
  • Environmental science,
  • Plastic arts,
  • Political and administrative sciences,
  • History and cultural studies.
The editorial activity consists of:
  • books selection and proposal to publication;
  • prepress - the procedure used in printing and publishing for editing, translating, collecting, correcting errors, technical editing, illustrating and book layout;
  • printing – the technological process of reproducing the original;
  • dissemination – distribution of editorial production to the own library, to "Tudor Arghezi" Central University Library or by other means..

III. The Press is academically subordinated to the rector for research and international cooperation and administrative subordinated to the vice-rector for scientific research and to the vice-rector for economic affairs. The Editorial Board is in charge with the editorial activity orientation, selection and proposal of materials and is composed of:
  • Editor-in-Chief;
  • Members;
  • Director of Libraries and Multiplication Service;
  • Secretary-editor.
The Editorial Board operates under a decision set by the university leading staff and has the following duties:
  • defines and promotes the editorial policy of the University;
  • approves the editorial materials;
  • establishes the scientific reviewers for each editorial material that are specialists in the field of the article under review.
The editor-in-chief is responsible for the operative management and shall be elected by votes by the members of the Editorial board.
The editor-in-chief establishes concrete activities necessary for achieving the objectives related to:
  • the development programmes strategy of the Press;
  • the annual publishing/distribution programme;
  • the budget of incomes and expenses;
  • the investment programme.

"Academica Brâncuşi" Press has its own printing house. Since 2007, the printing house has a new headquarters, equipped at high standards, with its own central heating system, rooms designed specifically for each operation in the technological process, etc. The printing house has advanced digital printing equipment, automatic welding machines, broaching machines, plasticizing machines and electric binding machines, all this equipment being used by the seven employees who always prove competence and respect for technical and professional standards.
The printing house staff is as follows:
  • an engineer – foreman responsible with coordinating the whole activity;
  • an engineer – computer operator;
  • two operators – multiplication machines;
  • a librarian - responsible for sales;
  • a responsible for registration and maintaining (archiving) of documents;
  • three binding workers.

This team of professionals, most of them with an extensive experience in printing, provides the complete technological process, from the graphic design to the completion of the product as well as the dissemination to beneficiaries directly or through the University Library which is newly established in our university and operates within the printing house building.
The Multiplication department of "Constantin Brancusi" University edits and prints meeting the special graphical conditions and the quality standards in accordance with the requirements of the quality management system which was recently implemented in our institution, in a close collaboration with its own printing house and the academic leading staff.
The Press and Printing Houses are primarily focused on the academic and scientific life and offers the following publishing services::
  • 1) prepress services:
    • computer editing;
    • documents scanning at a maximum resolution of 1200 dpi;
    • image processing and graphical conception.
  • 2) printing services
    • digital printing, maximum sheet size 297x420 mm, black and white or two colours,
    • indigenous or imported paper of all types,
    • cardboard book covers with a thickness of 300 g/sm.
  • 3) binding services
    • thermal glue binding;
    • wire sewing;
    • plastic rings binding;
    • archival files binding;
    • soft and hard covers, conference holders, etc.
  • 4) books special treatments:
    • plasticization, up to A2 size;
    • thermal foil printing.
